Patriotism

Everyone has his/her own views on patriotism. But it is no surprise if some people have no clue what patriotism is all about. Nevertheless, patriotism serves a purpose to us human, or rather countrymen. Living in a colorful country such as Malaysia, sometimes being a countryman seems a little too mono. Some leaders run shows to scare the people, while others create a sense of luxury by giving false hope. Either way, who are at the losing end? The answer is -- US, the countrymen.

Ideally, countrymen refer to the people who belong to the country. As for Malaysia, before the arrival of the Malays, there were the Orang Asli. They were the likes of Red Indians for the United States and Aborogins for the Australians. Known for its geographically strategic location, Malaysia has a unique history of becoming the hub for traders across the globe long time ago. And what do these traders brought to this country? Other than trading products, they brought themselves which came together in a package, that is, language, religion and most importantly, their beliefs. So, what happened to the Orang Asli when the traders came? Many of them shunned away and ran into the deep jungle while some of them were reformed.

What a person believes can greatly change the minds of others. This is what reformation is all about. You first equip them with new ideas and skills, then set their minds with appropriate goals, and when they are ready, you send them away to reform other people. A foundation process that is applied in the military or even in culturalizing a society. In a more simplified word, you brainwash them. The thing about brainwash is if you are weak, you will conform but if you are strong, you will keep your values.

Malaysia has a history of being colonized by a number of empires. Throughout that series of colonization, the people have been brainwashed and taken for granted. However, with the movement of promising patriots, Malaysia achieved its independence in 1957. Colonization superficially ended. Why is it so?

The recent General Election has evidently shown how the countrymen, acting as patriots being colonized by all the political parties. It's amazing how gullable the partiots could be when speculations and controversies were massively published on the media criticizing every angle possible among the political parties.

With this in mind, are we truly patriots when we are simply driven by the goals of political parties or we are simply a bunch of people who are yet to be truly independence?

For as long as the patriots fight for the wrong cause, nothing much will change in this country. And for as long as political parties use the people for the wrong cause, the country will be at the losing end. This country needs mature partiots, those who can think for the country not for the political parties.
