MERDEKA!!! or MERDEKA??? The truth is, we are still colonised by our own people, the greedy, ruthless and selfish ones. We are colonised by those who want to play God, who dictate our thoughts and beliefs, who control our freedom. These people are thieves who rip our dignity with lies and dishonesty. The rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer but the-in-betweens are at risk of bankruptcy. Life in this country is not getting any better. We often hear double standards but the truth is there are layers of standards these days. Corruption has become common in many levels of officials. If you do not have money, you will not be able to get what you need easily. The grandest of sadness that I see so far comes from the intolerable mockeries made by those who have power. What have the people done to you that made you force us into this double jeopardy - making our life difficult and laughing at us for not being able to cope with the difficulties. Social media have steadfastly become the battlefield of all walks of life to express their thoughts and feelings on almost any topic under the sun. The most common topic, of course, the current state of this country which is seen as worrying. On a flip side, whether you realise it or not, majority of Malaysians are patriots. We may have once been voted as one of the unfriendliest citizens, but the reality is, we are all caring people. We care about our people, our present and our future. Those of you who express your concerns on social media, that's you expressing your patriotism similar to the sea of people who participated in the street rally, because they are concern and that is them expressing their patriotism - the love of the country. I am a Malaysian and I love my country. No, I neither love any political parties nor any political leaders. No, I hardly post my political view on social media let alone participating in street rallies. For me, merdeka is more than just a man shouting the word in a stadium full of people. Merdeka is the state where we are free from our own mistakenly chosen enemies during the election. Merdeka is the state where we, the people, are dignifiedly treated regardless of our race and positions. Merdeka is the state where the key of administration is to nurture and not to punish unnecessarily. Merdeka is the state where transparency is the main code of conduct in all levels of officials. Merdeka is the state where the people are treated with great respect and not the other way around. Merdeka is the state where social media is the platform for people to spread positive vibes. All in all, merdeka means peace and harmony and this year, these are the changes that I hope to see. Happy 58th Malaysia.
